Design and Technical Advice

Water Garden Solutions’ Principal, James Allison, has extensive experience of water garden, water feature, fish pond, and horticultural schemes. He has been assisting clients for over thirty years on projects from small garden water features through to lakes.

Design

- At the initial stages of a garden design: when the site and proportion of any pool will have a major effect on its impact;

- Design as the water feature takes shape: its aesthetics, practicality, and relationship to the wider environment;

- Design when the detailing becomes important: with appropriate planting, pumps, and filtration where required, to maximize the potential of water in the garden landscape

Technical Detailing

- Construction plans to enable builders to achieve the desired results, using the most appropriate materials

- Full system design, incorporating pumps, plumbing and controls

- Plant choices, or full planting plans, working with the pond ecology, to encourage attractive and healthy displays

- Filtration systems to suit – whether for a fountain, koi pool, or swimming pond

Technical Advice

- Water quality reports and recommendations

- Choosing appropriate plants for a wildlife pond

- Ensuring best possible conditions for ornamental fish

- Choosing new or replacment pumps and filtration systems

- Troubleshooting

How we work:

We have advised homeowners; landscape architects; garden designers; landscapers; building firms; and others, both at the early stages, and on finished schemes. Contact us for an informal chat to see how we might assist on your project.

If you wish to proceed on a design project, we would usually aim to visit the site, carry out water tests if required, and discuss how to take the project forward. We prefer local work where we can easily visit projects. However, since Covid, we have undertaken a number of design projects for customers in other parts of the UK, when a visit was not practical. Working from customer-provided ground plans and photographs, we supplied detailed annotated plans for their builders with full specifications for equipment and suggested sources. The work is supplied at our hourly consultancy rate. We have very limited slots each year for this type of remote work.

Your plans are very clear and concise... the pond is looking exactly how we would like it to be.”

Contact Us to discuss your project.

thank you for your professional advice and supplying the pond items... I fitted the liner and pipe yesterday and it all went very well
